OUTCOME
The site is a large area of 1200m2 with a steep slope upwards from the street. The main view is to the front and our primary focus when designing was to ensure that the owners always sense part of the view of the Dandenong Ranges while inside the living spaces.

We firstly set out to design a six-car garage with a workshop and additional storage area at street level. Then we created four different zones:
The main living area
The parents retreat
A kid’s bed and rumpus area
Guest living area and games room

The family room is located on the upper level, oriented towards the view with a frameless glass picture window. The view has become the main artwork for the room. Next to this area are the meals, kitchen, terrace and pool areas. At the same level but towards the rear of the site are the parents and kid’s zones that connect to the rear yard. The guest zone is located within the lower level, and also features the views of the mountain range from the balconies.

The result is this home with amazing views, five bedrooms, three living areas, three bathrooms, an office space, pool, workshop, and six-car garage with the flexibility of being a multi-generational home for some years. Whilst the site may have been considered difficult for some, through good design the full potential of the land is unlocked, resulting in views, outdoor spaces, a wonderful entry experience, and all the home essentials the owners had been dreaming of.
