BRIEF
This existing 1980’s home is set on a significate land holding of 8.5 hectares. The home was in need of modernisation and maintenance. The owners were seeking a vision of what this sprawling property could become. They wished to update the general style of the home and increase the size of the kitchen, update the bathrooms, the lighting, fixtures, and fittings. They also wanted to resolve some of the functional issues such as solar heat gain and storage, remove the existing pool and spa from what was a remote location to somewhere that worked better, and create a new covered outdoor area with new sports courts and landscaping.

OUTCOME
The new feel of the home is inspired by experiences of being in a luxury resort.

There is an air of anticipation when approaching the entry which at first appears as a low wide timber battened wall. On opening the secret door with its substantial timber handle, you are greeted by the warmth of timber, natural stone, wallpaper, soft grey floor tiles, and sheer curtains. The narrow entry opens up to the first living area which has framed views of the outdoor spaces and landscape beyond. The addition of custom glass pendent lighting helps to define the different spaces and creates visual focal points.

Moving past this area, you enter the main family room with high ceilings, a kitchen with a separate prep area, and a meals area. The kitchen remains the hub of the home and the first island bench becomes the cockpit. The area has substantial flexibility and allows for a vast array of seating options. The highlight is an illuminated feature onyx stone panel above the fireplace. There was initially an atrium area between the family room and the existing outdoor space that was combined to create one great room. The existing lounge area faced inwards, but once the two areas were combined, the lounge and new fireplace could be relocated and reoriented next to a series of large sliding glass doors to take in the incredible views of the landscape beyond.

Past the family room is a large covered alfresco area with a timber deck and steps. This leads directly out to the new in-ground pool and spa. To the left is the sports court and tennis court, and to the right is an in-ground trampoline and new landscaping.

The owners will be looking forward to many years of holidaying at home.
