BRIEF
This large parcel of land slopes down significantly from the street frontage. From the higher points of the site, there are amazing views of the Dandenong ranges.

The owners were seeking to build a new home on the site of their existing home. They had been considering a large upper level off the street level as the main body of the home which looked out onto the views. The lower level was to be the quarters for guests, or possibly later carers, to cater for their needs when the owners entered into old age.

OUTCOME
We created two high roof forms down the central spine of the home, separated by a landscaped light court. The front roof covers the entry and the study, the rear roof covers the lounge. Both these areas have four-metre-high ceilings which bring light in from their highlight windows. An additional sense of space and further light comes from the light court. The fireplaces also add a sense of grandness to each of these spaces.

The lounge room, family room and main bedroom face onto the wide rear terrace which is dominated by the view. The terrace essentially becomes the rear yard and main outdoor space. The area contains the outdoor meals area, a spa enclosure, and a viewing area with built-in seating.

The upper level also contains two further bedrooms with their own ensuites. The lower level is connected with a lift and contains a living area, a bedroom with an ensuite, store, laundry, cellar, and an undercover outdoor space.
