CLIFTON HILL CUBE
Clifton Hill, Melbourne, Australia
Floor area 124m2
The site is located in a small street with a heritage overlay, so council required that the additions to the home could not be readily seen from the street. The owners were seeking a home which was light, airy, and functional. The home was to have enough space so that they could ultimately retire in it and spend time following their pursuit of creating and producing artwork.

The design of this Clifton Hill renovation features timeless, simple lines and a backdrop to the artworks that will be ultimately celebrated on the walls. The main bedroom, WIR, and ensuite are situated to the front of the existing Victorian terrace rooms. The living room is to the rear and has a large glass sliding door connecting to the rear yard. Adjacent to the door is a higher ceiling which allows expansive views of the sky.
The rear yard has a series of polka-dot grass mounds within concrete paving to vegetate the area but be resilient enough to allow a car to be parked in the space without effecting the lawn.
The upper level has a bathroom and two bedrooms. One bedroom acts as an Artist’s Studio and is serviced with additional light from a south oriented clerestory window above.
